3 Simple Wall Fixes You Can DIY

A damaged wall is one problem that is important to fix. A hole in the wall detracts you’re your home’s appearance. It is embarrassing whether you are hosting guests or trying to sell your home. Thankfully, there are some simple DIY repairs you can perform to restore the wall to normal.

Paint Touch-Ups

Sometimes walls will get dirty, paint will chip off, or its color will start to fade. If you notice any of this, you might want to start touching your work up. While you may think this means you have to paint the entire wall, that is not necessarily true. This is tricky.

Once you finish your original paint job, you should store the paint for potential touch-ups. If you don’t have the can anymore, go to a hardware store and get the paint mixed. To fix the wall, clean it, fix any noticeable damage with patches, and add primer.

Patching Drywall

Wall injuries need to be patched up. Small dents and dings are easy to fix with spackle and sanding. Popped nail heads are also easily managed as they leave a similarly sized hole. However, there are some drywall problems that need immediate repair so they don’t become worse and more expensive to fix.

For example, larger holes (the size of a doorknob or bigger) can easily be broken further. You will need to patch the hole using a piece of drywall bigger than the hole. You should then trace it around the area you want to fix. This let’s you measure the size of the drywall you need to add and tape to the main section. Then you cover it with a joint compound.

Taking Care of Mold

One of the riskier problems you might face in wall repair is the risk of mold. Moldy walls can cause sickness and are not sanitary. They also look terrible for potential buyers. Walls that face a lot of humidity (usually bathrooms) should be inspected regularly.

If you want to clean a small section of mold off your wall, you will need to arm yourself with hydrogen peroxide, bleach, or vinegar. A larger amount of mold might not be feasible to clean yourself. Call a professional in these cases.

Fixing your walls is essential if you want to keep your home looking nice. While you can get away with some small damages, fixing them early will prevent further damage. This is essential if you want to sell your home in the future.
