COMPAC Creates Techno-Poetics in Solid Forms
Designer and international artist, Arik Levy, created three new pieces for COMPAC to present at KBIS 2020 and I was lucky enough to be there and even snag a copy of his beautiful book “Techno Poetics” which is about the merging of technology, industry, art, vision, and poetry.
For 40 years COMPAC has enjoyed an enviable position as the within the world of architecture and interior design due to their top quality materials and trend setting artistic collections. The company is an exciting innovation pioneer leading the way with new formats, finishes and colors that inspire us.
The CEO of COMPAC, Paco Sanchis, believes “working with raw materials is just thrilling. One can be so easily seduced by a natural resource with millions of years of history, offering you the chance to endure over time and leave a legacy for future generations.”
Same, Paco. We believe in that too.
While I was at KBIS 2020, the COMPAC exhibit was a favorite because of the giant mood board of products that we could play with and create our own flat palettes of inspiration. It felt good to let the creative mind take over and experiment with materials and other decorative elements made from wood, glass, and even leaves to make unique compositions.
I was also thrilled by the COMPAC designs by Arik Levy. His Ice Black™ and Ice White™ designs for the Ice of Genesis collection really opened my eyes to what could be done with quartz material. You really can see the poetry in the movement of these slabs. The possibilities are endless!
In his book, he says, “High tech quartz is the perhaps the key to the future,” and I believe it. They use computer aided technology and engineering to transform the solid materials by milling, cutting, sawing until it becomes the form.
Levy said he shares his passion for exploring the limits of matter with COMPAC and we look forward to see what will come from this collaboration and his Techno Poetics.
