Love Your Walls: A February Refresh for Your Home

As February rolls in, love is in the air – but have you thought about sharing some of that affection with your walls? Colors are much more than just visual elements; they set the mood, reflect personality, and influence how a space makes us feel. By carefully selecting the right shades and patterns, you can transform your walls into canvases that enhance the ambiance of your home. These silent heroes hold up our homes, frame our memories, and deserve a little TLC.

“Using a dark color on the walls allows the furniture and accessories to take center stage, drawing attention to their unique qualities and design – Jennifer Hyman

I’ve got a client in a high-rise condo with floor to ceiling windows that show off impressive views of the lake and city. I developed these two images of the primary bedroom and dining room using AI to demonstrate how we could use color drenching to dramatically enhance the ambiance.

In the dining room, the walls are painted with Behr Rumors, a bold and rich red with brown undertones. Along with the matching striated velvet dining chairs, the color wraps the walls to create a sophisticated space in which the color contrasts beautifully with the blue expansive lake and sky views.

In the primary bedroom, Behr Aubgergine, the deepest purple goes before turning black, wraps you into an intimate, cozy space that quiets a bustling urban life. The chocolate merlot fabrics on the bed add some variation to the color story while the deep golden siena in the rug and drapes add in just the right amount of warmth. I’d love to see this room lit up with candle light.

Why Winter is Perfect for Wall Updates

The colder months often mean spending more time indoors, so why not give your attention to the walls around you? Paint and wallpaper projects are ideal for winter because they’re unaffected by outdoor weather conditions, and many home improvement stores offer great promotions in February.

2025 Colors of the Year and Coordinating Wallpapers

This year’s standout shades bring a blend of warmth, and elegance so let’s go one step further and try out wallpaper! Pairing these choice colors with the right wallpaper can elevate your interior design even further.

Consider these combinations for your own home:

Behr: Rumors MQ1-15 is a rich, bold red that commands attention and exudes confidence. According to color psychology, painting your dining room red can potentially help with digestion by stimulating your appetite which is another reason I liked it for the dining room transformation. Too bold? Pair it with wallpapers featuring metallic gold accents or geometric patterns in shades of ivory and cream to save the drama while pulling back a bit. Graham and Brown’s Art Deco Gold and Pearl Wallpaper, for example, elevates the red to a softer opulent level, allowing the wallpaper pattern to shine as luxurious focal point.

Benjamin Moore: Cinnamon Slate 2113-40 is an earthy, cinnamon-toned hue that offers a cozy yet sophisticated vibe, making it ideal for living rooms or bedrooms. This shade’s warmth is beautifully enhanced by textured wallpapers in taupe or warm gray tones. For instance, York Wallcoverings’ Mirage Wallpaper adds a refined and sophisticated touch, creating a space that feels both inviting and elegant.

Sherwin-Williams: Mauve Finery SW6282 is a soft, romantic mauve that whispers rather than shouts. This calming shade is fantastic for nurseries, bathrooms, or any space where serenity is key. Its softness can be amplified with delicate florals or abstract watercolors in pastel shades. For instance, Liesl Wallpaper by Emily Cooper Art is a perfect pairing, adding a whimsical ambiance.
