I AM CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH : The Novogratz
Bob and Cortney Novogratz are a husband and wife design team based in NYC. They began their work by renovating run down properties in New York and eventually their designs scored them a TV program, Home, on HGTV that first aired in 2011.
The Novogratz style is unique and easy to spot. Their designs feature bright pops of color and bold striking patterns while also incorporating vintage accent pieces. This retro design team has a full family, which includes seven children. Their kids take the main main stage in the Novogratz’ life. They are included in the TV show, magazine spreads and the Novogratz blog. Their love for family has also migrated into their design style. The Novogratz frequently design children’s room as well as other fun, family friendly spaces.
A favorite design method of the Novogratz is pops of color through the use of paint. By using the walls in a design space, Bob and Courtney paint spaces with bright pops of color and bold patterns that drive the direction of the room. This creation of a statement wall is an easy way to add in some Novogratz inspired design in your own home. You can use one solid color, or if you are feeling extra confident you can try a chevron pattern with a little more oomph. The Novogratz love bright bold colors, but this painting method will also work with neutrals if your space includes more earth tones. A little paint can go a long way when adding some color to your living area whether it is bright, neutral, or a giant mural across your bedroom wall.
Need more reasons to love this fantastic family? The Novogratz say that their favorite director to derive inspiration from is Wes Anderson. Anderson’s movie sets also incorporate monochromatic color schemes and vintage decor. When comparing the two you can clearly see the similarity between the film sets and the living spaces designed by the husband and wife team. So, if you need further inspiration, look no further than the creative and stylistic films of Wes. Blog writer, Ingrid Abramovitch at Refinery 29, has 10 clever tricks to capturing the color saturated Wes Anderson look as well.
The Novogratz have partnered with manufacturers at all price points from Wal-Mart to Old Navy to Macy’s to CB2, making it easy to acquire affordable pieces from their collection in your home. Would you try any of these styles in your home? Let us know how you feel about this eclectic style!
