MAKE IT DIY: Washi Tape
Get ready to meet the most versatile, and adorable piece of crafting media you’ve ever met. Its pretty, its chic, it can decorate, create, wrap and enhance…to put it simply it will change your life forever. Washi tape crafting has already devoured Pinterest and Etsy and the amount of projects that include Washi tape is staggering, and enticing. For the sake of time, and probably most people’s attention span, we’ll look at the ways that Washi tape can be used to enhance the rooms in your home.
Washi tape was originally made in Japan from the bark of native Japanese trees, but it is also commonly made of hemp or bamboo. In spite of its origin in natural fibers, Washi tape is surprisingly strong. Compared to the likes of duct-tape, these decorative rolls of magic are also affordable, with rolls starting at five dollars. You can start with just one roll, or order packs, or even whole sets with included storage systems. From simple to complex, there is enough levels of Washi tape activities for all!
On the easy level we have coasters and picture frames, use the tape to decorate plain white coasters so they’re adorable AND match your décor. Also, a great idea to create a set and gift it to a friend. Just stack them up and wrap ‘em tight with a bow. You can also create picture frames on the wall to give those beautiful pics some eye-catching accessories.
Another few other easy ones? Ceiling fans, and lampshades. These are also blank canvases waiting for your Washi tape touch. Stripes are great to add in some color and pattern to an otherwise monotone piece.
Want a bigger canvas? Try a table, a shelving unit or even your wall. With a little more space, you have more room to get creative. stripes are always a good option, but if you’re crafty you can get a little crazy with some dots, or cutting shapes out of the tape. You can give a chevron pattern, a swing, or even create flowers.
Not feeling satisfied, does your Washi craving need more? Head on over to Pinterest where the ideas are endless. If you’ve found a project, you can buy Washi tape almost anywhere. It is available at your local craft store or at www.wishywashi.com. Get your craft on!
