Basic Home Repairs You Can DIY
You may have started to feel a growing desire to get your DIY crafting on, but where do you begin? When it comes to DIY projects, basic home repairs can be a good place to start. Here are three simple home projects you can try.
Patch Drywall
In a bustling home with little kids, it’s easy to end up with unexpected holes in your walls. Knowing how to quickly and effectively address them is an essential skill. If you feel nervous about doing a number on your walls, you can often purchase a kit to patch small holes.
With the typical patch job, you’ll need common household tools, a scrap of drywall, some window screening, and some joint compound. Cut out the area around the hole and match the piece of drywall to the hole. You can then put the window screening over the area and smooth the compound over the patched area.
Simple Plumbing Procedures
There are multiple methods for unclogging drain pipes that you can use. One main method for unclogging drains involves using different liquid solutions. You can make your own or you can buy different chemical solutions. One great DIY method of clearing drains involves pouring baking soda, vinegar, and hot water down your drain. The vinegar and baking soda loosen the scum accumulated in your drains and the hot water then flushes it down.
You can also use different tools like plungers and drain snakes to pull the gunk and hair out of the drains. If you don’t have any of these tools on hand, you can fashion your own drain cleaner tool by disassembling a coat hanger.
Replace Hardware
Replacing hardware is a great way to update your furniture, doors, or cabinets. And surprisingly, it can actually be quite easy to update. For most furniture hardware, you can simply unscrew the handles and then screw on the new ones. For other hardware replacement jobs like replacing door handles, it may be more complicated.
But with a little elbow grease, you can replace that hardware too. Start by looking online for different YouTube tutorials. With those online resources, you can get a head-start on hardware replacement.
When it comes to DIY projects, basic home repairs can be a great place to start. Home repairs typically aren’t too complicated but the ability to perform those repairs is actually incredibly useful. So if your home could use some repairs and you want to do them yourself, these are some great projects to start with.
