Day Nine of the 10-Day Spring Cleaning Challenge – The Fridge

We’re almost there people! Today is the 9th day of Buzzfeed’s 10 day Spring Clean Challenge. We’re tackling the refrigerator and what fun this is going to be. Yes, that is sarcasm dripping like a spilled 16 ounce can of soda that you’ve never noticed way back there in corner. Actually, cleaning the fridge is not that big a deal and we can totally get this over and done with in close to 10 minutes.

One minute: Throw away anything that is empty
And things that are almost empty. You’re probably not going to use that last teaspoon of mustard, so go ahead toss it out. Take out leftovers that are more than three days old, soda that’s flat, and anything that’s expired.

Five minutes: Clean the shelves ( + throw away empties)
Supplies you’ll need: Vinegar solution, microfiber cloth, Magic Eraser
Spritz your microfiber cloth with your water/vinegar and make sure to get the front of any shelves and drawers where things might have dripped. For tougher stains, use your Magic Eraser.

Ten minutes: Shine the front ( + throw away empties + clean the shelves)
Supplies you’ll need: Microfiber cloth, All-purpose cleaner
Use your APC and cloth on the front of the fridge and especially the handles and the sides where you don’t often reach.

I need to find a method that works for labeling plastic storage containers so I know how long they’ve been hanging out. I always think we just ate that Chinese food yesterday, when in reality yesterday was about a week ago.

So this one went pretty quickly for me. How about you?

  1. Really nice reminder for me! I was planning to clean the fridge last week but I totally forgot to do it when I was doing my annual fall deep kitchen cleaning. I will empty it and clan it this weekend! Thank you for the post!
