How to Create the Perfect Guest Bedroom

Your home is your haven, and you love spending time in it gathered with your friends and family. A dedicated guest bedroom is a special place for them to stay after a night on the town or family time together. Whether it’s deluxe accommodations or more “family style” – as long as your guests have a clean and organized space, they’re sure to enjoy their stay and have a restful vacation. We’ve got some great ideas for creating the perfect guest bedroom!

Making it Comfortable

You may choose to match your guest room to the theme of your house or give it its own individual flair. Neutral color schemes provide an air of relaxation and have an upscale feel without you needing to renovate the entire room. Plush rugs and adjustable lighting let your guests go from morning to night while staying rested and relaxed for wherever the day takes them.

The Bed Area

Most guest bedrooms are generally small since they’re used infrequently, but that doesn’t mean they need to be cramped. The bed is generally the centerpiece of the room, with accents such as dressers and lights for reading surrounding that focal point. The bed should have a duvet cover or a comforter (yes, there’s a difference) to make the bed more inviting. Duvets are sturdier and thinner, while comforters are quilted. Each is useful depending on the season and whether you live in a warm or cool climate. A matching bedding set makes all the difference, and if you have the space for it, add other furniture for relaxation, such as a loveseat or couch for lounging and decompressing after a day on the town.

Make Sure Your Guests Have Access Outside of Their Room

A proper houseguest may feel timid using the bathroom at night or grabbing food from the fridge. If your room doesn’t have a connected bathroom, give your guests ease with hallway lighting to lead them to the restroom. Instead of a midnight hunt to the kitchen, perhaps invest in a mini-fridge or a coffee station with snacks so that they can grab a bite to eat on their own. Another helpful tip is to provide your guests pamphlets and brochures of local areas to venture to on their own.

The most important part of being a host is accommodation and respect. Make sure your guests are as comfortable as possible and feel welcome so they will visit again soon!
