I’ve been looking for a solution to the shoe stained wall underneath the breakfast bar that separates the kitchen from the dining room.  My first thought was to paint the area the same dark color that is on the trim but that seemed boring. My second idea was to cover the area with wood flooring and stain it the same color as the floor but that seemed like a lot of work for little design impact.  I could tile the wall but again – a lot of work, little impact.  I was about to give up on the idea (yeah right, me give up on a challenge) when I came across this site tonight.

It’s Stikwood and as the name implies, it’s real wood that you peel and stick to a wall or any surface.  It’s sustainable, made in the U.S.A. so shipping is affordable, and it looks super easy to do.  Stikwood gets the materials from reclaimed lumber or uses sustainable growth new wood and then slices super thin layers that are 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch thick. Each plank is 5 inches wide and come in lengths of 1 foot to 4 feet.  Need custom sizes? No problem, each piece is easily cut with a hand saw to the size you need.

I ordered a sample pack at $25 to get a feel for what the product will be like and also to let my clients know about it and see if it can be used in on any of our current projects.  I’m interested in seeing how it would work out on furniture or even on kitchen cabinetry.

I’ll have to add some pictures in later because my site is acting a little bit wonky.  In the meantime, check out their site and think about where you could use a Stikwood accent in your home.

Tell me what you think! … comment below
