Sustainable Style : Rebuilding or Renovating Your Home with Reclaimed Wood

I really like the idea of working with reclaimed timber because each piece of wood that is reused means a tree stays standing in a forest.

Reclaimed wood barn

The wood used in this garage doesn’t need to be painted or stained to look old.  It already is!

Reclaimed wood mirror frame

The rustic charm of these pieces blend really well with the modern and contemporary pieces.

Reclaimed wood coffee table

Reclaimed wood pieces like this coffee table are great choice to make for a living room where small children gather and play.  Because the surface of the table is already pocked with the natural marks of age, there isn’t much damage kids can do it.

Reclaimed wood floors

The reclaimed wood planks that make up this kitchen floor are kinder to feet than stone tiles would be. Reclaimed wood butcher block counter tops are an excellent choice as well because they aren’t easily damaged by pots and pans.

Reclaimed wood stairs

Reclaimed wood also works well in unexpected places like stairs and ceilings.

Reclaimed wood countertop

The countertop in this bathroom skillfully blends rustic and modern.

Reclaimed wood stove hood

Reclaimed woods are also being used in ways that they never have before.  Did you notice the range hood over the stove?  It blends in perfectly with the decor in the kitchen.

Are you already using reclaimed wood in your home?  If not, where would you use it?
