This Was How I KBISed
The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) is North America’s largest trade show dedicated to all aspects of kitchen and bath design and it is the premier kitchen and bath design event. Industry professionals from all over the world attend to network, exchange ideas and build their businesses.
KBIS boasts the following stats:
- 31,000 Attendees
- 600 Exhibitors
- 400 Press
- 85,000+ Social Following
I, personally, boast these additional stats:
- 42,248 steps taken
- 4 blisters
- 24 glasses of wine and several delicious cheese trays sampled from
I got an interactive look at leading brands because KBIS is a very hands on experience.
You get to tryout the latest industry designs, products and technology from over 600 leading brands by tweaking the hardware, opening and closing the drawers, running your hand across the surfaces, sitting inside the tubs etc. Being able to compare products side-by-side and ask questions and get answers straight from the manufacturers is a priceless education.
Signature Kitchen Suite (SKS) took me through their exhibit so I could learn the details about sous vide stove top cooking because there’s no excuse for an overcooked steak anymore. They have the industry’s only built-in sous vide range for a precise level of pink center. Then you can finish it by creating a delicious crust using the 23K BTU Ultra-High™ Burner. Are you drooling yet?
There were so many learning opportunities plus CEU’s to attend. What’s better than watching an hour long YouTube CEU in the 11th hour of last day of the year in order to meet your CEU requirements? Anything! Right? But seriously, at KBIS you can be inspired by leading thinkers and doers at the Voices from the Industry events and attend presentations and panels discussions through out.
Oh and there is fun to be had during the special events and networking opportunities!
We worked hard during the day and at night we played hard too. I had just gotten on the elevator at the Nomad Hotel when a tile rep handed me a card to a VIP party that night and said it was a must attend event. There are so many special events, parties, and receptions taking place on and off the show floor, there are many opportunities to connect.
I’ll never forget taking a bus to the hills looking over Las Vegas to see the 37th New American Home, by the National Association of Home Builders during its annual convention in Las Vegas. It was a 7,638-square-foot single story desert oasis home in Henderson, NV built to showcase the latest innovations in design, efficiency, and technology.
I hung out in the Design Milk X Modenus Talks Lounge. This was the 4th year industry insiders and influencers to chat with design VIPs about all things regarding the “2020 Vision: The Future of Kitchens & Baths Through the Looking Glass.” We listened as representative from kitchen cabinet manufactures discussed trends in design and global markets.
I got a front row seat at the KBISNeXT Stage to watch Kelli Ellis host DesignBites, while taking in some bites and champagne, and watch several innovative companies vie for he title of Best New Product. This year it was Plum. Plum is the first fully automatic appliance that perfectly preserves and chills wine so it can be enjoyed one glass at a time.
But best of all, I got to get to know and form a tight bond with the 2020 Class of Designhounds design influencers. We are a like-minded group of social influencers who believe in authentic engagement between ourselves, the public and the brands we do business with. We learned and laughed and had an amazing time!
So this is how I KBISed in 2020 and I hope to return in 2021 and every year after that. If you’re an interior designer who works on kitchen and bath design it will be a priceless education for you as well. Join us!
